STANYS Conference Awards

​The STANYS Conference Awards recognize outstanding science teachers and leaders who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and dedication to science education across New York State. These awards celebrate individuals who inspire students, support their colleagues, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of our field.

We encourage you to review the awards listed below and take the time to nominate a deserving educator who is making a difference in your community:

Excellence in Elementary Science Teaching (Anton Banko Award) Recognizes a K - 6 outstanding teacher of science. Covers expenses to attend the STANYS annual conference and provides a stipend.	Excellence in Intermediate Science Teaching Award Honors an intermediate teacher who demonstrates excellence in science teaching and is involved in professional activities.	Excellence in High School Science Teaching Award Honors a high school teacher who demonstrates excellence in science teaching and is involved in professional activities.	Excellence in College Science Teaching Award Honors a college level teacher who demonstrates excellence in science teaching and is involved in professional activities.
Fellows New Teacher Award Recognizes the future promise of a new teacher - a second through fifth year teacher. The award supports the attendance at the annual STANYS Conference.	Champion of Teacher Development Award Recognizes building, district, or regional educators who promote or provide continued professional learning of science teachers.	STANYS Fellow Award This is the the highest honor that is bestowed upon a member. Fellows have served with distinction in the classroom and professional organizations. Their leadership and scholarly endeavors in science education are noteworthy.	Nicholas Romano Chemistry Award Honors a college level teacher who demonstrates excellence in science teaching and is involved in professional activities.

 

In addition to our standard awards, STANYS also offers special recognitions that are bestowed upon individuals, sections, or organizations and require a nomination only.

These awards provide an opportunity to honor exceptional contributions and impactful work within our science education community. 

STANYS Award of Appreciation Awarded to those individuals who have given outstanding service to STANYS.	STANYS Executive Committee Award Given to a non-member, or entity, who has made exceptional contributions to STANYS, or science education.	Membership Challenge Award Awarded to the Sections of STANYS that have the greatest increase in total membership and the greatest percentage increase.	STANYS Service Award Presented to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to science.
